Build a solar oven from a shoebox and test it by making a s’more! Learn about solar energy in this fun STEM program for teens and tweens.

Can the sun really bake a s’more? Find out at our Shoebox Solar Oven program! Teens and tweens will explore the power of solar energy by building their own solar ovens using simple materials like a shoebox, foil, and plastic wrap. Once the ovens are built, we'll head outside to test them—heating marshmallows for a delicious solar-powered treat! This hands-on activity introduces key STEM concepts like heat transfer, insulation, and renewable energy. We'll also have a book display featuring awesome STEM experiments you can try at home.
