Tween Tuesday: Monster Genetics Lab
Tuesday, October 27
3:30pm - 5:00pm
Become a monster scientist! Experiment with monster traits, create your own creature using genetics, and discover how inherited characteristics are passed from one generation to the next.
Step into the lab and become a junior geneticist! In Monster Genetics Lab, tweens will learn the basics of genetics by creating silly monster families and discovering how traits are inherited. Using colorful monster trait cards, participants will make predictions, complete simple Punnett squares, and determine whether their monster offspring inherit horns, wings, extra eyes, colorful fur, tails, and other fun features.
After exploring monster genetics, each participant will design and illustrate their own unique monster based on the traits they inherited. Along the way, they'll learn how scientists use genetics to study plants, animals, and people while practicing observation, prediction, and critical thinking - all through a fun, Halloween-themed STEM activity.
