Explore paper weaving and learn about matariki, a Māori star craft! A fun, hands-on art activity for all ages with books on weaving and paper crafts on display.

Join us for a creative Paper Weaving program where children can explore a fun and accessible form of art that ties into our Summer Reading Program theme! Kids will learn the basics of paper weaving using colorful strips to create unique patterns and designs. We’ll also take time to learn about matariki, a traditional form of paper star weaving used in Māori culture to celebrate the Māori New Year. This hands-on activity encourages creativity and fine motor skills, and is adaptable for a wide range of ages. Related books on weaving and paper crafts will be on display for further discovery.
